We are The USS Fort Worth Support Committee, a 501c3 non-profit organization focused on recognizing and promoting the achievements of the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat ship, The USS Fort Worth (LCS-3), and all those who serve on board.
Our mission is to promote local awareness of the USS Fort Worth’s Naval service and infuse the USS Fort Worth with the friendship, heritage, and spirit of the City of Fort Worth throughout the life of her service. We aim to provide lasting and favorable memories of the City of Fort Worth to all Sailors who serve aboard the ship.
With our foundation of members, donors, sponsors, and supporters we can make a difference through our community engagement and crew relations programs. Help us build an everlasting bond with the USS Fort Worth crews and their families. Join us at one of our next events to find out how you can Support the Fort!
The USS Fort Worth Support Committee continues to monitor the development of the FY 2023 Department of Defense budget and ongoing discussions of the possible decommissioning of nine Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).
Committee members maintain our commitment to provide the ship’s crew support and encouragement until the day the ship officially is taken out of service, whether that is next year or 20 years from now.
“Since the day of the ship’s commissioning, our work is focused on supporting the USS Fort Worth crew and their families!” said retired Navy Capt. Rudy Laco, president of the USS Fort Worth Support Committee.
In the Navy’s previous plan for the LCS program, the Freedom-class ships were identified for anti-submarine warfare services using a new sonar system Navy doesn’t have in the fleet. The variable depth low-frequency active sonar (VDS) would provide the Navy an additional method to locate the more sophisticated Russian submarines entering service.
The USS Fort Worth Support Committee has worked continuously since the ship’s September 2012 commissioning to promote community awareness of the USS Fort Worth’s naval service while infusing friendship, heritage and the spirit of the City of Fort Worth throughout the ship’s decks, quarters and crew members. Our efforts to raise funds to support those activities continue.
